News - Lobby Day
Our Lobby Day is fast approaching (Tuesday, April 20), and we hope to have representatives from every group in the state as we present our issues to our elected officials . . . this is an important opportunity for the Sierra Club to raise our profile and our concerns with the Legislature.  Please come, even if you are not active in your local group. . . we are hoping to have 100 Sierrans at the State House for Lobby Day.  If you don't want to make the trip alone, contact your local group chair to arrange car pooling to Columbia.

Please RSVP as soon as possible to the office at (803)256-8487 or via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and let us know that you are coming so we can plan our lunch numbers.

Lobby Day is very important to our Club because it gives us a chance to show the senators and representatives that we have a unified, strong voice that isn't just localized here in Columbia, but that comes from members all around the state.  We're only given one chance each year to directly lobby our representatives, so let's take advantage of it and begin to bring about the changes in mind-set that our state so desperately needs.

Our Agenda for the Day

We plan to meet at the office (1314 Lincoln Street) in the Gamecock Room at 10:00am. Coffee and breakfast snacks will be provided.  There is a city parking garage across the street from the office where you can park for the day.  It has entrances on Lady, Lincoln and Washington Streets.

We'll receive a briefing from Cary Chamblee at 10:30am.  He'll go over the issues and talking points of our most important conservation legislative priorities.  He will explain how the lobbying process works, and we will divide up into teams with an experienced team leader to help each group through the process.

At 11:30am, we'll head over to the State House (if you have a van, or similar vehicle, please feel free to bring it so we can get as many people there as possible at one time).  We plan on taking groups over together.  Parking near the building is rather difficult and the meters have a two-hour limit.  If you plan on parking at one of the meters, bring quarters.

We'll stay until the session ends (or 1:30pm), then unfurl a large banner on the State House steps, calling attention to Earth Day, and the Sierra Club.  We will return to the Gamecock room for a homemade lunch, provided by the Chapter.

After lunch we'll have committee meetings for those who would like to stay and attend them.

We hope to see you there on April 20!!!
