"If a man walks in the woods for love of them half of each day, he is in danger of being regarded as a loafer. But if he spends his days as a speculator, shearing off those woods and making the earth bald before her time, he is deemed an industrious and enterprising citizen." - Thoreau

Oil - Oil News

With the looming summer heat about ready to drop on us, why not head it off and do a little good for the environment.  There are nationwide organizations that take human hair and turn it into oil absorbing mats.  So if you are going to be getting your hair cut over the next week or so, make sure you keep it and send it along or ask your stylist/barber to do it for you.

It doesn't matter how long or short your hair is, just make sure that you only donate head hair--I guess beards aren't as useful.  In fact if you have a dog that is due for a trim (or a cat that you just don't like) you can also donate animal hair as well.

Not ready to get your hair cut just yet?  Why not contact your local hairdressing salons and let them know that the hair they cut today could help turn the tide on the oil spill in the gulf that is threatening the entire gulf-coast region?

And for those of you with old or worn-out stockings, the organization will also accept nylon stocking donations—even if they have runs in them.

WISTV has an article about the hair donation program here.

Matter of Trust is an organization that will accept your hair donation.

Here’s an article on a California oil spill from 2007.

Here’s a less regional article on the donation program.
