The State newspaper reported that developers are looking to fill in an area of wetlands near the historic oak tree in Johns Island just south of Charleston.  The project is being carried out in order to build an apartment complex that will be about 1000 feet away from the tree and its surrounding park.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced a call for comments as developers need approval from both the Corps and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control to fill in the land.  Those who wish to express their opinions have until July 14 to comment.  You can make your comments heard by contacting the Corps at (866)329-8187.
