Go Green Columbia! Free Community Electronics Recycling
Columbia Place Mall is teaming up with 5R Processors, Ltd. to help Columbia and the surrounding communities properly dispose of their household electronics equipment at no cost. 5R will be set up in the Columbia Place Mall outer parking lot across from Burlington Coat Factory on Saturday, September 24th from 10:00am to 2:00pm where they will be accepting any old or obsolete electronics equipment. Additionally, 5R will be providing Department of Defense approved hard drive cleansing for only $10. The event is open to the public and 5R is accepting residential equipment only.
5R will be accepting most consumer electronics and home office equipment including: computers, monitors, laptops, printers, TVs, cell phones, microwaves, large household appliances and more. Recycling paid off last year for four Main municipalities, which avoided paying a combined $1 million in waste disposal costs.
From July 1, 2010, through June, residents and businesses of Cape Elizabeth, Portland, Scarborough and South Portland recycled their waste through Portland based EcoMaine, a nonprofit group which is owned and operated by 21 municipalities in southern Maine. EcoMaine has a single-sort recycling facility, a waste-to-energy plant and a landfill/ashfill site.

Electronics Recycling - It's the Law!
As of July 1, 2011, residents are no longer allowed to dispose of computers, computer monitors, printers and televisions with their household garbage. These items must be recycled.

May is National Bike Month, and May 16th through the 20th has been designated as bike to work week, culminating in a Friday, May 20, 2011 bike to work day!
Why not leave the car behind this week, at least once, and bike to work. Can't bike to work? Why not bring your bike with you on your car rack and use it to get lunch or take a liesurely ride through a nearby park at noon?
